Is Jerry Leaving Dak and McCarthy Taking All The Bullets’ of Blame?

Donovan McNabb, who has a 12-9 record in 21 starts versus the Dallas Cowboys, at least understands how America’s Team runs. The former Philadelphia Eagles standout sees only peril ahead after club owner Jerry Jones publicly stated that he can work with probably the greatest head coach in NFL history.

Much has happened on the Cowboys’ ledgers since their unceremonious postseason exit at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, so it’s easy to forget that Jones insisted he could work with Bill Belichick, who is a free agent on the coaching front after parting ways with the New England Patriots after 24 seasons.

McNabb obviously did not forget… “When asked about his coaching decision, will Mike McCarthy continue to be his head coach to possibly lead them to a Super Bowl, Jerry decided to defer a little bit and talk about how great Bill Belichick is, and to talk about how he would work with Bill Belichick,” McNabb said on his podcast, “The Five Spot.” “(That’s) not really supporting his head coach or his quarterback.”

As a former quarterback, I don’t fully endorse having a guy be the face of your franchise and take all of the bullets when it comes to bad talk about the Dallas Cowboys.

” The Cowboys are sticking with Mike McCarthy through the final season of his current contract, but the prospect of Belichick lurking over his shoulder creates an unsettling tone for the 2024 season.

That’s at least how McNabb sees it, as he believes Jones’ rhetorical jab at Belichick does not constitute a vote of confidence in McCarthy or franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.

Jones caught some flack for maintaining the status quo after the loss to the Packers, which makes his apparent endorsement of Belichick all the more puzzling.

McCarthy is in the final year of his current contract so he and Prescott will face what appears to be a make-or-break season. Now, it’ll spent with the implication that one false move could have Jones playing the Belichick card.
