Former Rangers boss fails in transfer move as Ibrox midfielder ‘turns down’ switch

Former Rangers boss fails in transfer move as Ibrox midfielder ‘turns down’ switch.

Michael Beale, former Ibrox manager, was unsuccessful in bringing one of his summer players from Rangers to Sunderland during the transfer deadline.

Beale brought in Leo Hjelde, Romaine Mundle, and Callum Styles last week, but failed to sign Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes.

Cifuentes was brought to Ibrox by Beale in the summer in a £1.2 million move from MLS team Los Angeles FC, but has slid down

the pecking order under new manager Philippe Clement as Rangers compete with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.

The player signed a four-year contract with the club in August, but has had a difficult time in Glasgow, similar to another Beale signing Sam Lammers, and is poised to leave Rangers in the coming days.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the Ecuadorian may have been reunited with former manager Beale, who had

contacted his previous club in an attempt to entice the 24-year-old to Wearside. Unfortunately for the 43-year-old Sunderland

manager, the player was hesitant to make the step to the English Championship and ‘turned down’ the offer, instead pursuing a move to Brazilian club Cruzeiro.

The international midfielder is anticipated to join Cruzeiro soon, but the transaction has been delayed due to’red tape’ – however

the move is nearly guaranteed to be completed before the Brazil transfer market ends on March 7.

Employment laws in Brazil need the 24-year-old to complete paperwork in his hometown of Ecaudor, so his move cannot be

finalized until next week, with rumors stating he will be certified as a Cruzeiro player on Thursday.
