Here is what was stated as the Rangers boss keeps constructing a daring title challenge:

Philippe Clement, Rangers vs. Aberdeen news conference

Philippe good night. What was your overall opinion of the game at the time?

“That we had a great game today, one that we dominated. However, these are the kinds of games you play during a season when things don’t go your way. As a result, you completely control the first half and have multiple scoring opportunities. A goalie who performs exceptionally well today, especially in the second half, a few blocks, a large number of players in the box, just guys flinging their bodies in front of our players to shoot, and then you have this one moment, which is also indicative of (Bojan) Miovski’s talent,

he doesn’t need much to score goals. So you get a knock there just before half-time and then it’s important to stay calm and to continue what you’ve been doing and not to start to doubt. I think that’s a massive step forward that the team is ready to do that now. That the dressing room is ready to do that and on the other side the defenders are ready to do that. It’s a big difference with a few months ago, that the belief stays and everybody keeps on pushing to get a result. That was one circumstance, then the second circumstance is the red card. Yeah, ten minutes before the end of the game. So you need to struggle these last ten minutes also. Although it was not really a struggle that we give away a lot, we had even chances to score also a goal because we kept on going but it makes the game more difficult to finish off the game. If we stay with XI it was a different end of the game but maybe at the end it’s good also to show everybody how aligned everybody is in the club now, fans and players. Because it was amazing to feel this energy out of the stands these last ten minutes.”

You talk about the energy, you say the players, the fans feel ready, obviously at the moment you’ve gone level on points with Celtic. Do you feel that this could be a significant night? It really felt like that Philippe at the full-time whistle with the fans and the players.

“I don’t believe that is keeping the supporters overly occupied. They simply believe that the squad is playing much better football and that they are competing well overall. that every member of the team is committed to giving the club their all each and every day. And it’s something that the players have worked hard to regain—the credit they lost at the start of the season. Therefore, it’s critical that we keep saying that and that the supporters continue to encourage the squad through trying times because those times will also come in the upcoming months.

I have a question for you regarding the red card; the referee clearly looked at the monitor and adhered to his ruling; this is not something that happens very often. How did you feel about the choice?

“I have to make a tough decision. due to the fact that Dujon (Sterling) slipped and struck the opponent’s toes. Thus, I haven’t seen many red cards that allow you to touch your opponent’s toes up until now. I can’t recall a single incident from the past, so that one is harsh and adds to the difficulty of the game’s conclusion.

But it’s also a difficult profession, I know because we need to do it every day in the training, to make decisions. So at the end, the referee decides and we need to accept it.”

Philippe I had a question for you regarding Todd Cantwell. That makes five goals in six games while wearing the number ten jersey. You indicated that his role from the beginning of the season has been modified. He’s really hitting his form, so you must be happy with his contribution?

“I am see him growing because he’s doing much more what’s necessary for the team and he’s starts to understand much better the story. And he feels also that it’s to his benefit but that’s not the most important thing, that it’s to the benefit of the team. He needs to continue in that way. To work for the team, to do the things for the team, and then the individual things come also like the goals or assists. But it’s not only for Todd. It’s for everybody, all together. I think people saw really good combination play today, with really good actions, not only with offensive players but all the team involved in our attacks. That’s the football we want to bring the next couple of months and to grow with that also because we still have a lot of room for progression to make it better.”

And both goals scored by players gambling on a shot that’s saved, players getting into the box and capitalising. Again that’s not something that’s happened regularly in the past so that must be something you’re happy with?

“Yes but also first that the shot is made. That was also a thing in the past that it took too much time sometimes. So everybody sees the team growing month by month and that’s our ambition to grow. So we have a few new lads coming in, they understand also better and better the story. You see Fabio (Silva) in a better way that two, three weeks ago. It’s normal, it’s logical. You need to have worked together, you need to get the connection with the players. Cyriel did also a really important job before that to break the wall because at the end of the game, or the last 20, 25 minutes, you get more space because players get tired, opponents get tired because of all the work that’s been done in the first half. So it’s a team performance. I am really glad about that, to feel this winning mentality in this dressing room now. And there’s no doubt any more whatever happens like getting this goal against just before half time. Because those can be break points in the head and it’s important that we overcome those.”

Philippe when you look back – you spoke about the nerves at Ibrox when you first came here – when you look at an atmosphere compared with tonight, has happened that quicker than you thought maybe possible when you came into the job?

“That’s a difficult question because I don’t have expectations about that. It’s my ambition also to win everything. Until now I never did it with a team, to win everything in a season. So I have high ambitions always and it’s great to feel it. That was for me one of the major reasons to come to this club compared to other possibilities. Because I knew how incredible it can be when all these fans are behind the team and how much energy that can give. I love this job, if we win things, if you see the joy from the players, from the staff, from the fans, there I get my energy out to work hard every day. So I get a lot back now.”

Philippe, Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande both came off the bench in the second half there. How pleased where you with their performance given they came into a very tough game but still being very new into this side?

Alright. Oscar is adjusting quite quickly, although he is more game-ready because he also played for Colombia’s U21 squad. Dio has some hard work ahead of him since he played his final game at the end of November. However, I’ve seen in the training that he’s also prepared to act in the team’s best interests, and we’ll see if we can include them more into the narrative week by week or match by match.

Do you believe that Philippe, the Aberdeen substitute Duk, should have received a red card for challenging Connor Goldson?

“If a tackle on the toes results in a red card, that player may also receive a red card, but the referees’ decision is final.” I’m free to think whatever I choose; it makes no difference. The referee makes the decision. It’s still vital that we accept that it’s our job. Because we want to play this game, everything is as it is. Making a good team is my responsibility, and since I adore football, I also think it’s my job to make good football. I adore playing football, and in order to achieve that, I want a team that is both appealing and dominant. Because the referee is the one who makes the rules and I am occupied with that, we must abide by their decisions.

What did you say to the referee when you returned to the field following the game?

We conversed calmly. No, be really at ease. I also appreciate that we can respectfully and civilly debate issues with referees, including our opinions over the red card.

You stated that you must accept Sterling’s decision. Would you think about reviewing it again and filing an appeal?

“that those are decisions that the club must make. I thus never make these judgments alone and don’t want to, but this one seems very obvious to me. However, we must first talk about this inside the club.

Philippe We were aware prior to the game that you would be resting Ryan Jack, but I believe there were raised eyebrows when you selected Tom Lawrence above Nico Raskin and possibly even Dujon Sterling. Given that Tom gave a fantastic performance tonight, why was he selected before the other two?

Yes, but you can also ask a lot of questions concerning other gamers. No, that’s what I currently see—who is exhibiting the highest level of quality, and it’s quite a bit. Making decisions these days is challenging since there is a lot of competition. Nico needs to develop his rhythm because he recently recovered from a lengthy injury. However, this was not a game to force people to learn rhythm; I anticipated a very difficult battle in which we would need to demonstrate a high level of skill. Thus, Tom was selected, who, like in the past, gave me a pretty good game. Additionally, he is recovering from an injury, so as soon as he became fatigued, I substituted him for Dujon. And that’s how it is going to continue with the entire club till the end of the season. It’s also a positive thing that they’ve learnt to be honest about it. I want every second a player spends on the field to be at 100%, not at 90% or 95%.
