According to a report, the Celtics have identified 3-Point Marksman as a serious trade target.
Floor space is important to the Boston Celtics, and they reward it from their centers, wings, and guards. They have a trade target in mind that would provide them with better shooting, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic. With Simone Fontecchio in mind, they would have another shooter on hand. According to Jones, the two teams interested in the Utah Jazz big man are the Celtics.
According to several league sources, the Phoenix Suns and the Boston Celtics are interested in trading for Utah’s starting small forward. Jones reported as much in a piece published on February 6. “Both teams need to bolster their respective second units, and with Fontecchio in the last year of a $3.1 million contract, Phoenix and Boston can easily find his salary number.”
Jones outlined Fontecchio’s fit with the Celtics and his season three-point percentage of 39.4%. Fontecchio would be a good addition to the Celtics’ frontcourt, which is in need of depth. His stature and length as a shooter will enable him to play alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in lineups. On the floor, he has no fear. Jones outlined the Celtics’ advantage over the Suns as well as the reasons his contract position is favorable.
All the Suns need to deal with are second-round picks. With a couple firsts at their disposal, the Celtics are in a better position. Fontecchio will be a restricted free agent this summer if he is dealt, giving whoever trades for him team control. He is appealing on the market because of this as well.
