Willie Collum set for Rangers referee return after Celtic penalty row and Ibrox ban request

This weekend marks Willie Collum‘s return to Ibrox after Rangers asked him to abstain from officiating them after the repercussions from the Celtic penalty back in December.

The referee caused a stir when, on December 30, during the Gers’ 2-1 loss to the Hoops, he declined to signal for a penalty from the VAR truck. When a penalty was not awarded for a handball by Alistair Johnston that occurred before an offside image was displayed during the build-up, the Light Blues wanted to hear the audio from the officials and subsequently sought greater transparency from the SFA.

Following a series of back-and-forth remarks between the club and the governing body, Gers requested that the SFA cease permitting Collum to officiate their games going forward. This request was promptly turned down.
