The real reason Kyle Walker and Neal Maupay had on-field spat during Brentford v Man City
A brawl broke out between Kyle Walker and Neal Maupay on the field during Brentford’s Premier
League matchup against Manchester City.
Phil Foden’s hat trick gave Pep Guardiola’s team the victory, but the headlines were made by Maupay and Walker’s verbal altercation.
Over the course of the ninety minutes, the two could be seen talking back and forth to one another at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Walker took a throw-in in front of the dugouts, and Maupay immediately yelled obscenities at the Three Lions international. The former Tottenham player started insulting the Bees forward back with the same amount of incomprehension and rage.
The first goal in the capital was scored by Maupay, who just got into another argument with James Maddison, but the Premier League winners answered back.
Thomas Frank’s team suffered their 12th loss of the season thanks to three goals from Phil Foden, and they are now just one win away from the Premier League’s relegation spots. Maupay decided to go after Walker, possibly frustrated with how the match had gone, after hearing last week of his breakup with longtime girlfriend Annie Kilner.
In an effort to defuse the tensions between the two players, Guardiola, Frank, and fourth official Stuart Attwell all made early attempts to step in.
After the match, the Dane said to Sky Sports, “No, I saw they were talking to each other.” After a game where we lost, it’s not my first priority.
