The £2 million Rangers exit could take till March as Jose Cifuentes to Cruzeiro faces a setback.
The Brazilian Carnival season has caused an almost two-week delay in the Jose Cifuentes transfer
from Rangers to Cruzeiro.
After a dismal six months at Rangers, the 24-year-old Ecuadorean midfielder has “verbally agreed”
to a loan-to-buy agreement that will send him back to his home continent.
The World Cup star, who hasn’t reached Glasgow’s expectations yet, arrived in the summer from
LAFC in the Major League Soccer.
Rangers is expected to profit from the trade as reports had indicated that a previous loan-to-buy
offer from Rizespor might ultimately be worth £2 million to the team.Jose Cifuentes to Cruzeiro
postponed due to Carnival Rangers supporters keeping an eye on the deal might be asking why
there’s a delay since Jose Cifuentes is still officially an Ibrox player despite the ongoing connections
to Cruzeiro.
According to reports, the Brazilian Carnival season has caused delays in the bureaucratic
registration process for any transfers.
No Ataque clarified that Jose Cifuentes won’t travel to Belo Horizonte, Brazil to finalize the contract with Cruzeiro until after Carnival, which takes place from February 9–17.
According to the Brazilian newspaper, Jose Cifuentes is actually scheduled to depart from Scotland
on Friday, February 9th, returning to Ecuador for a family visit before relocating to Brazil.
The agreement to bring Cifu to Cruzeiro is only likely to be finalized sometime around the 18th of
the month, or 12 days from now, as the character is not anticipated to be in Brazil until Thursday, February 15.
Brazil’s transfer window is still open until March 7th, so even then, there won’t be any urgency to seal a deal right away because it has been open for more than a month.
Rangers’ dissatisfaction with the midfield acquisition
No matter what the Ecuadorian player does in the future, Rangers supporters will be disappointed to hear the name Jose Cifuentes.
Following the midfielder’s signing, fans were quite excited, but after 20 games, the former LAFC standout hasn’t done much to win over supporters.
Competition in the middle of the park is intense, with John Lundstram, Nicolas Raskin, Ryan Jack, Mohamed Diomande, and even Dujon Serling ahead of Cifu in the standings. They haven’t been seen since the 3-2 Europa League victory against Real Betis.
You have to think that Cifuentes is taking a step backwards with this, as his brief stint playing football in Europe won’t be remembered favorably.
