Kentucky football adds highly touted WR recruit just days after Liam Coen’s departure
The departure of coordinator Liam Coen to the NFL has left the future of Kentucky football’s
offense unclear. However, it appears that one of the top offensive targets in the UK for the 2025
high school class was unfazed by the disruption. Two days after Coen’s exit became known, Quintin
Simmons, a four-star wide receiver out of Cincinnati prep school, made his commitment to
Kentucky on Monday. In the UK 2025 class, he is the second verbal commit, after four-star
Pennsylvania prep quarterback Stone Saunders.
Following Coen’s return to the NFL as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, UK is
looking for a new offensive coordinator as well as maybe a schematic makeover. Over the past year,
a number of UK’s top offensive recruits from high school and transfers have committed to
Kentucky, citing Coen’s pro-style scheme as one of the main reasons. However, Simmons must have felt enough trust in the future of the offense from UK coach Mark Stoops and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow to ignore the uncertainty that exists right now. It’s also probably less significant now that Simmons was signed by Marrow, the Wildcats’ go-to Ohio recruiter, once the offensive coordinator position became available.
Simmons chose UK over Ohio State, West Virginia, Michigan, Syracuse, and Cincinnati as finalists. He would offer UK a commitment from Withrow High School for the second straight class if he follows through on his commitment through signing day in December. Terhyon Nichols, a defensive back from Withrow, enlisted in the UK in December and began classes in January. Simmons is ranked as the No. 15 wide receiver in the class of 2025 by 247Sports.
