Jose Cifuentes Cruzeiro debut planned but ace still at Rangers amid delay

While Jose Cifuentes Cruzeiro’s debut is scheduled, the Rangers’ ace is still there due to a delay.

The Rangers player hasn’t even left Glasgow due to delays, but Jose Cifuentes is scheduled to make his Cruzeiro debut on Sunday, February 18th, according to the Scottish Sun.

The midfield player is scheduled to play his first game for the Brazilian team against Democrata next weekend, but due to “red tape,” he won’t be able to enter the nation until a few days prior, the daily said on their website on February 6.

Brazilian employment law dictates that he must travel via his home nation of Ecuador to complete paperwork, but he isn’t even due to leave Scotland for South America until Friday (9 February).

It appears that Cifuentes will now be presented in Brazil on Thursday, February 15th. Cruzeiro has “plenty of time” to complete the trade before the Brazilian transfer window closes on March 7th.

One further problematic aspect has been mentioned: Belo Horizonte’s carnival, which doesn’t end until the day of his proposed debut.

Cifuentes’ departure from the Rangers must go over obstacles

Given that he hasn’t yet left the UK and that the relocation paperwork needs to be completed, making his debut in little over a week and a half seems like a lofty goal.

The agreement looks to be finalized for the most part, but it might still fall through until it is formally announced.

The 24-year-old needs this to end as soon as possible because he is currently expected to continue showing up for work at Rangers even though he is no longer involved.

It will be up to him to hope that the obstacles he must overcome pay off and that he can do as well in Brazil as he did in Scotland.

While at Rangers, Michael Beale signed Cifuentes, but he was unable to do so at Sunderland.

Though in principle the former LAFC player should have been fully healthy and ready to go as soon as Michael Beale got him in at Ibrox, his arrival midway through the MLS season didn’t help him establish himself in the SPFL.

Now, he is following in the footsteps of fellow failed summer acquisition Sam Lammers by leaving the team once more, this time on loan.

In other Rangers news, following his rejection of contract offers from the Hearts, Lawrence Shankland says he has “a lot to consider.”
