Up until now, the new era of college athletics has been an incredible journey. College athletics have

never looked the same as they do now, with Name, Image, and Likeness located next to the transfer

portal.

It’s going to alter much more soon, though.

The National Labor Relations Board’s Regional Director for Region 1 (Boston), according to a

report by Pete Nakos of On3, has declared that the men’s basketball players at Dartmouth are

employees of the university. The NLRB is also directing a union election in conjunction with this ruling.

What’s the significance? This might mean the end of the NCAA and bring collegiate athletics to a whole new level. There will be a lot of questions to be addressed now that players are officially labeled school employees: Where does the money originate from and how are they paid? Will there be a CBA similar to that of the pros? What happens to sports that don’t produce a lot of money?

This is just the beginning of what will undoubtedly be a chaotic event.

This choice takes NIL a step further and will likely result in things that are currently unknown to us. This is bound to be a topic of discussion for a while, especially in light of the recent creation of the Big 10/SEC Advisory Board.
