Report on Bruins Prospects: Beanpot, Jellvik, Lohrei, Lysell, and More

With the NHL’s All-Star Break drawing to an end, collegiate hockey’s schedule is becoming hotter as February approaches. Every year, the first two Monday nights in Boston are significant college hockey nights because the Beanpot Tournament is hosted at the TD Garden. The biggest matchup of the season will pit future Boston Bruins players against one another in the opening round—their third meeting in ten days.

In this section of the Bruins Prospects Report, we will preview the Beanpot, discuss the Providence Bruins’ performance in the American Hockey League (AHL), and much more.

Four Bruins Prospects Gear Up for the Beanpot

The four Division 1 Boston schools will square off in the annual Beanpot Tournament, which gets underway Monday night (Feb. 5) at the TD Garden with four prospects for the Boston Bruins participating. The first round, which begins at five o’clock, will be played by Boston College, Boston University, Harvard University, and Northeastern University. The consolation and championship games are held on February 12, one week later.

As Boston College is now the top-ranked team in the nation and has won five straight, including a weekend sweep of their first-round opponent Boston University on January 26 and 27, this season’s tournament has the potential to be one of the better ones in recent years. Third-placed Boston University is ranked. The two teams will face off.

With 11 goals and 13 assists in 24 games, Bruins prospect Oskar Jellvik is sixth on the Eagles in scoring, a significant leap for Boston’s 149th overall pick and fifth-round pick in the 2021 Entry Draft. In 2022–2023 as a freshman, he recorded four goals and eleven assists. With eight goals and twelve assists, Andre Gasseau is just behind Jellvik in the scoring column. Gasseau, who was chosen in the seventh round of the 2021 Draft, might be a good late-round pick for the Boston Bruins.
