Rangers against Livingston – 9/10 for class act, 6/10 for out of sorts star, player ratings.

This afternoon, Rangers took on a lackluster Livingston team, and David Martindale, who was jealous of Philippe Clement’s new gadgets, was determined to fight against the odds.

After a few acquisitions, the manager of the Gers has added more depth to his team, and the Ibrox audience was obviously thrilled to see Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande join Fabio Silva.

The following are your player ratings as the Rangers attempt to make a statement about Livingston.

Player rankings for Rangers vs. Livingston

Jack Butland, age six

The England international’s game was the quietest he has ever had.

James Tavernier, number seven

It’s fantastic to watch the captain, who was previously positioned out wide and merely putting crosses in, have a fresh lease on life and be playing almost as an auxiliary midfielder.

Borna Barisic – 7

When he follows Philippe Clement’s game plan he still has a part to play for Rangers, was aggressive in his position and hit the by-line to cross rather than in front of the Livi defence.

Connor Goldson – 6

Just doesn’t seem to be himself recently.

Though he occasionally lost control or engaged in a duels with Joel Nouble, his passing and placing were impeccable.

John Souttar (on ahead of schedule due to Leon Balogun’s concussion) – 7

strong, controlled Nouble, and drove the ball out of defense.

Lundstram John – 8

Put your signature on the agreement.

has made major progress since Philippe Clement’s arrival and is demonstrating his ability to control the play’s tempo even while facing a low block.

Ryan Jack: 7

A strange game to play a more defence minded midfielder alongside Lundstram but the fact that Livi had only 30 touches in our final third with no shots at goal when he was on the park suggests that he did his job.

Todd Cantwell – 9

Not everything came off for him but he kept trying and trying before getting his reward with the killer third goal.

Would have been easy to coast with Rangers having so much of the ball but didn’t stop running.

Ross McCausland: 7

Unusual game for a twenty-year-old.

Lots of possession, three excellent scoring opportunities, and an impeccably precise assist.

Must find his boots for shooting.

Rabbi Matondo, age seven

Like McCausland, the last ball was lacking at points but ended up with a much-needed and well-deserved goal.

7 Fabio Silva

worked really hard in a crowded box, had a beautiful finish with little room for his goal, and came just inches short of a great second.

Who says we can’t use one more striker?

Alternatives

Eighth Oscar Cortes

Yes, that seems excessive for a 25-minute cameo, but he almost always outmuscled his opponent and had the opportunity to pick up a couple of assists.

Ridvan Yilmaz, number seven

Loves playing games where he can take risks and explode forward, hitting the bar with a bold chip.

Tom Lawrence, number six

The game was quiet, but the ball went rapidly.

Scott Wright: 6

regular running power and suffered a cutback that was not justified.

Cyriel Dessers – 5

missed a clear opportunity from eight yards out, squarely in the center of the goals.
