Jakub Lauko of the Bruins Responds To Jeremy Swayman’s Hug Snub.
On Friday, a Vancouver Canucks player had a different perspective on the NHL All-Star Weekend, which is intended to be a celebration of the game and an opportunity for fans to watch exciting interactions amongst the league’s top players.
During the skills competition, Jeremy Swayman and David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins were taunted by Maple Leafs fans in Toronto.
Before the game, Swayman arrived wearing the goaltender embrace tradition that supporters had grown accustomed to with
Linus Ullmark. Thatcher Demko fired Swayman before Igor Shesterkin and Connor Hellebuyck hugged, despite the fact that Jake
Oettinger and Alexandar Georgiev did the same. Bruins fans were plainly outraged by the Canucks All-Star’s embrace snub, but a club favorite responded correctly.
Demko may have had a competitive advantage because Boston and Vancouver were tied for the NHL’s most points during the All-
Star break. It seems possible that the Bruins and Canucks will meet off in this year’s Stanley Cup Final. Fans only need to look back to the 2011 Stanley Cup final to see a history of hostility between the teams.
The roots of a resurgence in the rivalry may have been sown on Friday night, and they may continue when the Canucks visit TD
Garden on Thursday to face the Bruins for the first time this season. After snubbing Swayman, B’s fans would most likely anticipate Demko to be warmly welcomed in Boston.
