“Unacceptable”  Martin Keown tears into £75k-per-week Tottenham player after what he did today

Martin Keown not impressed by Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham drew 2-2 against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday (February 3) at Goodison Park.

Brazilian forward Richarlison scored two goals for the north London club against his former team, but Guglielmo Vicario proved to be the weak link in the end, as Everton equalized in the 94th minute, lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Tottenham were not at their imperious best, but they were well on their way to a win. They dominated the game, but Everton fought until the finish and scored an equaliser.

Martin Keown was critical of Vicario, and he said on BBC Final score (relayed by BBC Sport) that the goalkeeper should have done better. He thinks that the 27-year-old goalkeeper, who is on £75k-per-week deal, is “costing them points”.

“For Tottenham, [their goalkeeper] Guglielmo Vicario is costing them goals from set-pieces. He should have done better [for both Everton goals],” said Keown.

Disappointing

Tottenham’s final result was unsatisfactory. Ange Postecoglou will believe they should have defended better. Conceding a goal in the 94th minute will damage the team competing for a Champions League spot.

Vicario has been a dependable goalkeeper for Spurs, but rival teams have identified a vulnerability in him. When he is physically targeted, he tends to lose control, like he did today against Everton.

In the first half, the Toffees scored after a corner that Vicario failed to clear properly. For the final goal, he lacked the bravery to leave his line and knock the ball out.

Jarrad Branthwaite was astute enough to steer the ball home and secure a critical point for the Toffees.

Spurs needed a third goal to win the game, and they generated several excellent opportunities. However, they will be frustrated that they have to concede so late.
