David Martindale slams Rangers VAR goal and claims Celtic result boosted Ibrox side

David Martindale slams Rangers VAR goal and claims Celtic result boosted Ibrox side.

According to David Martindale, Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Aberdeen gave Ibrox ‘great impetus’ to defeat Livingston 3-0.

The Hoops’ stalemate in Granite City allowed Rangers to close the gap to three points with a game in hand as the title chase

intensified. The Light Blues easily defeated Livi, despite laboring for the first half-hour, thanks to a goal from Fabio Silva.

Martindale noticed something wrong with the goal; it went to VAR, where Connor Goldson’s tussle with David Carson was

eventually awarded in favour of the Gers, and it kicked off a loss that has left the Lions six points behind the relegation play-off

zone and nine points from safety. Martindale blames VAR and Celtic for his team’s fourth loss in five games.

He told BBC Sportsound: “I believe there is a decision for VAR. I believe Goldson flies in with high feet and catches David

Carson on his thigh. His feet are high, which limits David’s ability to attack the ball, but he catches him on the way down.

He wasn’t supposed to catch their guys; he was supposed to try to make touch with the ball, but we were startled, to be honest.

“I was really surprised that the goal stood, and it created a lot of momentum for the crowd.” You and the Rangers both benefit

from a significant increase in energy. We had to deal with it and other events, such as Celtic surrendering points at Aberdeen,

which I believe had a significant impact on how they started the game. We had to weather the storm, and I think we did quite well.

“The boys stayed true to their structure, pressing when necessary and dropping off when needed. I don’t think Shamal [George]

had much to do until the corner kick, and I’m still debating whether the goal should have stood or not.”
