Abdallah Sima to Rangers: Major update on Brighton star’s permanent Ibrox news – Sources

Major update on Brighton star’s permanent Ibrox news

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Rangers won’t likely be able to afford a permanent transfer for Abdallah Sima in the summer unless they make it into the Champions League.

Transfer reporter Pete O’Rourke disclosed to Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast that the forward, who suffered a catastrophic injury during the African Cup of Nations, may have played his final game for the Gers.

The parent club of Sima, Brighton, is rumored to seek a summer transfer cost of at least £15 million, which may be much beyond Rangers’ means unless they go past the Champions League group stages.

The 22-year-old picked up a thigh injury while training with Senegal at AFCON, with Philippe Clement confirming he will be absent for the “long term”.

The major blow for the Ibrox giants could force him out of action for the remainder of the season.

He is Rangers’ top goalscorer in all competitions this season having bagged 15 goals across 35 appearances and has been a key figure in the club’s resurgence since Clement’s arrival.

As revealed by Football Insider (31 December), Brighton would be willing to sell Sima as he does not fit into their plans going forward as they have plenty of top-level attacking options at their disposal.

Rangers are second in the Scottish top flight following their 1-0 away victory against St Mirren on Saturday (27 January).

They are next in action against Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon (3 February).

In other news, Deal agreed: Clement has ‘high expectations’ as Rangers complete new signing.
