Why Brendan Rodgers won’t walk away from Celtic

Brendan Rodgers is committed to his role as Celtic manager, having known the outcome since his return in June.

There has been a lot of conjecture on social media about Brendan Rodgers‘ future. Maybe speculation is the incorrect term; it’s more of a major overreaction by our most gloomy supporters.

We all know who the doom and gloom merchants are. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a ‘happy clapper’, as you’ve obviously gathered! There is nothing wrong with speaking up when it comes to criticizing the club when it is due and well-deserved. Especially now that our men are once again sleeping at the wheel.

However, a line must be drawn somewhere, and painting a continual picture of gloom serves no purpose. Despite our misgivings about how the club is now operated, we remain at the top of the league and are in a solid position to maintain our title.

Brendan Rodgers, of course, is principally responsible for this year’s title charge. He’s a class act, as seen by his performance in a challenging campaign in which he had to train his players to adapt to his brand of football while also guiding us through a sticky patch.

So to say Brendan is considering quitting is quite the statement. When he returned to the club in the summer, he was aware of the conditions under which he would be working and declared that he considered this as a long-term personal project.

He knew the score and still does; he wouldn’t have agreed to a three-year contract (with the prospect of additional years to come) unless he saw this as a long-term project for him, the place where he would make his name as a top coach and football manager. To claim otherwise is ridiculous, and it is guesswork that we can do without at this point.

When the window closes, we can all have our say, and our attention will shift to journeys to Pittodrie and Easter Road, where we must ensure that we take all six points.
