West Brom transfer latest as Celtic winger completes medical after AC Milan snub
A report claims that West Brom is getting close to signing Celtic winger Mikey Johnston. According to our pals at the Express & Star, Johnston has had a physical and will be joining on a loan basis for the end of the season. There is no choice or requirement to purchase the athlete at the conclusion of the agreement—it is a simple loan.
The 24-year-old comes in with two goals and two assists from his 12 appearances across all competitions this season. He has only made three starts so far this season, and in Celtic’s most recent game—a 1-0 victory against Ross County—he only played for 14 minutes.
Winger Chaka Traore of AC Milan was also mentioned, although it seems likely that he will stay in Italy. West Brom and Lausanne were believed to have been leading the race, but an eleventh-hour move by Palermo has caused them to lose out.According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Palermo has won the race to sign him initially on loan, but the contract also includes a 15% resale clause and an option to buy him for €10 million.
Johnston may not have been the only player to show up on the day of the deadline. Given the loss to Matt Phillips and the recall of Jeremy Sarmiento, a winger was imperative, but a center midfielder might also be available today. Jayson Molumby will require foot surgery and will be out for several months, making it unlikely that he will be able to play any more in the 2023–2024 campaign.
