‘Sellable’ Rangers man finished at Ibrox, £5m transfer mooted – Stevie Clifford

Stevie Clifford shares fresh Rangers transfer verdict on Deadline Day as Ianis Hagi finished at Ibrox.

Stevie Clifford has confessed that he does not believe Ianis Hagi will ever play for Rangers again and expects him to be sold after this summer’s European Championship.

The Romanian midfielder is on loan in La Liga with Deportivo Alaves this season, although he has struggled for form, recording only one assist in 14 league outings.

Hagi has two and a half years left on his contract at Ibrox, but Clifford believes Philippe Clement will try to move the 25-year-old at the conclusion of the season for around £5 million.

On the Rangers Review YouTube channel (1 February, 22:20), he stated: “I wouldn’t think so, I believe he is a sellable asset.

In the summer, we will probably have to sell a few and regroup that squad, and he is probably one that we will look and say we’ve got some value there.”

“I don’t believe we could have brought him back in January; as far as I know, we didn’t have that choice, therefore I’m not sure Hagi will return in a

Rangers jersey. I believe that if he has a good Euro and we get £5 million for him, we will thank him for 55 and shake his hand.

Rangers fans begged the Light Blues to recall Hagi from his loan spell in Spain a few months ago, believing he would bolster the club’s title ambitions after a slow start to the season under Michael Beale.

However, it only took a few weeks for most people to conclude that the Romanian international is done in Glasgow, and it now appears improbable that he will ever play for the Gers again.

Hagi’s age and reputation as an international player, who could participate in the Euros this summer, make him a sellable asset, and if he performs well in Germany, the Light Blues may be able to command a reasonable cost.

This might be one to watch as the season progresses, especially if Hagi’s form improves near the conclusion.
