Peers choose Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes as Coach and Executive of the Year.

The Detroit Lions are receiving accolade after accolade. The most recent comes from the magazine Sporting News, which named general manager Brad Holmes of the Lions the NFL Executive of the Year and coach Dan Campbell the NFL Coach of the Year for the 2023 season. The Sports News states that only head coaches were permitted to vote for Coordinator of the Year and Coach of the Year, and that only front-office staff and personnel decision-makers were allowed to vote for Executive of the Year.

While the Lions winning one of these honors would be one thing, the fact that Holmes and Campbell were recognized in the same year speaks much about the current state of the Lions organization as a whole. The Sporting News has only recognized a team’s general manager and coach jointly twice in the previous eight years (2022, Buffalo Bills’ Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane).

After winning NFC Coach of the Year from the 101 Awards, Campbell has already received two Coach of the Year awards. He is also a finalist for the Coach of the Year honor from the Associated Press, which will be given out on February 8 at the NFL Honors.
