Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes ‘there’s no doubt’ he could work with former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick amid reports Mike McCarthy ‘will NOT get extension and coach 2024 on an expiring deal’

Following a disappointing playoff loss for the Dallas Cowboys, team owner Jerry Jones praised Bill Belichick in a recent statement.

Belichick is out of a job in the NFL for the first time in nearly 30 years. He was the Patriots’ longest-tenured league head coach, serving from 2000 until earlier this month.

The Washington Commanders, Dallas’ archrival, currently have the sole head-coaching position in the NFL and have not been linked to Belichick during their search.

McCarthy’s contract expires in 2024. Despite a 12-5 regular-season record in the last three years, the Cowboys have only won one postseason game under his leadership.

McCarthy’s promise to lead Dallas to its first conference championship game since 1995 has yet to materialize, leading some to assume Jones is privately eager to make a change if that barrier is not crossed next season.

Jones told Yahoo! Sports, “I know him personally and I like him.” ‘I have no doubt that we could work together. None. None.’

Jones’ comment apparently stemmed from an inquiry about what he admired most about Belichick. He declined to directly answer questions about the Cowboys’ future with Belichick at the helm.

‘I don’t want to get into it, for the sake of discussing anyone I may have spoken with about coaching,’ Jones added. ‘But I didn’t speak to anyone. I have not spoken with any other head-coaching candidates besides my own.

Of course, a Jones-Belichick partnership could only occur in Dallas. And it is at least a year away, if it ever happens.

Jones’ remark to Belichick came two weeks after stating that he is ‘100 percent supportive’ of McCarthy as Cowboys head coach.

The 81-year-old Jones couldn’t help but compliment Belichick, who will turn 72 in April.

‘We all know he’s brilliant, possibly at the pinnacle of his profession,’ Jones said of Belichick. ‘To claim that any one person guarantees you a Super Bowl is ludicrous. That is too great an expectation for him. But is he perhaps the greatest professional football coach of all time? Could could well be.

‘He is a buddy, and I like him, and I want to be clear: I would have no difficulty working with him,’ Jones said.
