SOURCES: LYON AND WEST HAM AGREE TO PAY FORWARD DELIVERY OF A MASSIVE BLOW TO EVERTON
West Ham United and Lyon, a French team, have reached an agreement to acquire Said Benrahma, according to ITC sources.
Said Benrahma, a West Ham United player since 2021, appears likely to leave the London Stadium and join Ligue 1.
The 28-year-old is still finalizing terms with the French giants, but Lyon is now expected to stave off interest from Marseille and a few other Premier League suitors.
West Ham is still in negotiations to sign Ibrahim Osman of Nordsjaelland and Jota, a winger for Al-Ittihad, but it’s unclear if they will be able to close these deals in time.
Even though Sean Dyche’s Everton was interested in the 28-year-old, HITC had reported that talks were in progress and that a deal was almost done.
The agreement is for a £4 million initial loan, with the possibility to extend it for an additional £11 million at the end of the season.
This season, he has only played 615 minutes in the league for West Ham, starting just six games, and contributing 0 goals and 1 assist across all competitions in 2023–24.
Although Benrahma’s contract with the Hammers runs in 2026, it appears like he will be departing from West Ham.
Lyon’s difficulties
Although the French team is undoubtedly one of the strongest in Ligue 1, Pierre Sage’s team has had a very difficult season.
Lyon is now in the relegation play-off slot in the league, sitting 16th in Ligue 1 and one point above the relegation zone.
This season, they have lost an astounding 11 of their 19 league games, and it is hoped that Benrahma will provide the spark necessary to help them avoid relegation.
