Sky Sports pundit instantly reacts to Jack Butland exit news at Rangers, ‘it would be incredible’

The news of Jack Butland’s departure from the Rangers prompts a Sky Sports analyst to say, “It would be incredible.”

After learning of Jack Butland’s impending departure from the Rangers, Kenny Miller expressed his immediate reaction, saying, “It would be incredible” if the Englishman left Ibrox this month.

According to reports, Philippe Clement’s team turned down a deal for their top player from Nottingham Forest and stated that he wouldn’t be available for purchase at any price during the January transfer window [STV News, 30 January].

Though the 30-year-old’s “exceptional” performances this season have assured it would take a hefty money to get him, Sky Sports pundit Miller believes that Butland merely joined the ranks at Ibrox on a free transfer during the summer.

Speaking of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (30 January) he said: “I’ve got to say, it would be incredible if he did leave, but, you have to look at what you’ve just said.

“I wouldn’t take a £1 million offer for a player I signed for nothing because I believe he would be worth more in this day and age. Not so much about his age, because he’s 30 and a goalie.

“But let’s just suppose it was £10 million. In my opinion, Rangers would be really disappointed to get that kind of money for someone they signed for free in six months. That’s also for a goalie, to put it politely.

“Jack Butland has been absolutely exceptional. The signing of the season no doubt about it. When the big saves have needed to be made, he’s popped up with them. If Philippe Clement was to lose him, I think they would be absolutely gutted at any price, to be honest with you.

“But the Rangers board will have to listen seriously if there is a cash offer on the table.”

Not available for purchase

The Rangers have swiftly positioned their stool over Butland. While the January transfer market may be a great chance to pick up some fast cash, their goalie is not up for grabs.

Should Clement lose the Englishman in January, it will severely harm the Light Blues’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership. Butland has been the best signing for the Gers this season, if not the best in the entire competition.

It is unclear if the Ibrox management would accept the £10 million that Miller has proposed, but regardless of the amount offered, it seems like moving the Englishman would be a poor decision.

In the last few days of the transfer window, perhaps, Rangers will hold their ground despite larger offers for perhaps their most valuable player.

In other Rangers news, the team’s pursuit of Oscar Cortes at Ibrox has resulted in a new injury update.
