Romano – Rangers deal still on, transfer guru drops when 20yo could sign

Rangers make a left-back signing from Brazil After Fabrizio Romano revealed a twist in the tale, Jefte was placed on hold

The 20-year-old, who is on loan at APOEL, has resumed training after a brief hiatus, but there is some good news to report, according to the transfer guru.

Rangers don’t need a left-back desperately, but when Fabrizio Romano disclosed a key piece of information, it now appears possible that Jefte may return in the summer.

Rangers postpone their summer acquisition of Jefte.
After we came to an agreement with Fluminense, it was the Italian journalist who leaked the information about our attempt to recruit the young defender.

He subsequently verified that a January transfer had been ruled out following conjecture all day.

Given that APOEL is now subject to a FIFA transfer embargo, it seems sense that they wouldn’t want to lose a talented player so close to the end of the transfer window.

But there is some good news, as Romano has explained:

“Jefté-Rangers deal has collapsed as Apoel are not willing to break loan for the second half of the season…

“…but I’m told Rangers have verbal pact in place to reactivate the option to sign Jefté in the summer transfer window.

“Deal could really happen in June.”

Given that Borna Barisic’s contract expires in the summer, the calculation appears to be rather simple.

For the remainder of the season, keep Ridvan Yilmaz and the Croatian at Ibrox. When Rangers have room in their roster for Jefte, make a return for him.

Jefte appears to be a similar kind of full-back to Ridvan, since both enjoy driving at players and providing support to the midfield. Ridvan has been playing well lately.

Although left-back wasn’t a top priority in this transfer window, it appears that by settling on terms in advance, we have at least simplified matters for the summer.

Hopefully, APOEL is a team that honors its commitments.
