Celtic get the green light to go and sign striker who impressed Gary Neville

  1. Celtic get the green light to go and sign striker who impressed Gary Neville

Ironically, though, Norwich City needed to get a striker in the door after the Championship team closed a deal on van Hooijdonk before Celtic could pursue the Republic of Ireland international. Journalist Mark Hendry claims that as the agreement appears to be finalized, Celtic may now move forward with pursuing Idah.

Hendry addressed X and said, “Norwich and Sydney van Hooijdonk have reached an agreement. Canaries refused to approve Adam Idah’s Celtic loan until they had a suitable alternative in place.

“That’s now sorted so no more roadblocks. Yeah, like I said, the irony of this deal is not lost on me either. With Idah reportedly desperate to join Celtic, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get this deal over the line.

What Gary Neville has said about Adam Idah

If there was anyone you would want to listen to when it comes to facing strikers, Gary Neville would be the man to speak to. The Manchester United legend has faced some of the world’s best strikers in his day.

After watching Idah’s performance in Norwich’s 3-0 away win at Watford on January 2022, Neville was left seriously impressed with the youngster. After creating an assist in the win, Neville said [Irish Independent], “If I was up against Teemu Pukki and Adam Idah, I wouldn’t be comfortable as a defender.”

Adam Idah Celtic striker?

As TBR Celtic said earlier, Idah’s goalscoring record this season isn’t the best but how do his career goals stack up? The 22-year-old was highly rated coming through the Norwich youth ranks and in his first season in the Premier League U18 league in 2018, he scored nine goals in 15 appearances. He was then promoted to the Norwich reserve side and made six appearances in the Premier League 2 (formerly known as the Professional Development League) but failed to score.

The following season, Idah improved on that performance with 12 goals in 19 games, which saw him swiftly advance to the Norwich first team. Nevertheless, Idah has only managed to score once in 29 games, and the 22-year-old has only scored 11 goals in 70 Championship appearances.

Idah does seem like another project signing with 41 goals in 168 games, but if he signs with Celtic, I suppose the supporters will just have to wait and see what he can do to replace Yogo Furuhashi. [Transfermarkt]
