Rangers transfer news as Hugo Cuypers update emerges at Ibrox

News about Hugo Cuypers’ deal to Rangers surfaced at Ibrox.

Hugo Cuypers of KAA Gent is a striker who Rangers are interested in, but Sacha Tavolieri reports that he will not be moving to Ibrox this month despite the deadline of February 1.

According to the Belgian journalist, Glasgow will not be the striker’s next destination this month or in the future, despite the Ibrox club’s appreciation for him.

This season, Cuypers has been on fire in every tournament, tallying 17 goals in 34 games, including 10 in the Europa Conference League.

“Hugo Cuypers won’t join Rangers,” he posted on X.

“The Scottish club very appreciate the profile of KAA Gent’s striker but I’m told it won’t be his next destination.”

This is one name that has come out of the blue, with the last week of the transfer window always throwing out some surprises at Ibrox.

It does fit the profile of what Rangers want though with another new striker potentially following the likes of Mohamed Diomande, Jefte and Oscar Cortes to Govan.

Since he spent time in Belgium, Philippe Clement will be familiar with Cuypers, and he is the first name we have seen as a possible replacement for Lawrence Shankland as a striker.

That simply strengthens the ties to Shankland, though, as Cuypers appears to be off the table.

This update further confirms that Clement and Nils Koppen are searching for another number nine, so this is definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming days.

Go ahead and do it.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have already reached an agreement to sign a new player prior to the deadline, but they will have to pay twice as much for the acquisition.
