Two Rangers fans who viciously beat a Celtic supporter and left him with a brain damage were arrested

today.

Jordan Adam, 27, and Richard Love, 26, attacked Paul Connolly, 47, on a train at Glasgow’s Shettleston

\station on February 2, 2022.

The pair chanted “Glasgow Celtic Paedophiles” at social worker Mr Connolly, who urged them to keep

quiet.

They then referred to Mr Connolly and his companions as “beasts, paedos, and bead-rattling b******s.”

The trio had a disagreement, which escalated into violence when the two males ambushed Mr Connolly.

Adam later stamped on Mr Connolly’s head which caused him to drop unconscious.

He was later discovered to have bleeding outside the brain as well as a bruise on the brain.

Adam and Love pleaded guilty in Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Connolly,

resulting in severe harm, incapacity, lifelong disfigurement, and risk to life.

Sheriff Tom Hughes detained the plant engineers from Airdrie and Coatbridge, Lanarkshire,

pending background checks until next month.

He stated, “This is a horrific combination of events resulting from a football match. Looking at you both,

you are not ignorant people who are constantly in problems; you both have good occupations.

“Here you are in court facing severe penalties as a result of what you did to someone else,

and for what? A football match?

“I hope the message is clear to other people that find themselves in a similar position to you that the

courts will not tolerate mindless violence.”

“You are lucky you are not at the High Court facing more serious charges than you are.”

Celtic had trounced Rangers 3-0 at Parkhead earlier that night. Adam and Love boarded the train in

Glasgow City

Centre under the influence of alcohol and were later joined by Mr Connolly,

his partner Jaqueline Seery and her friend Pauline McGeough.

Love sung Rangers tunes, prompting Mr. Connolly and his friends to sing Celtic chants.

The court heard that the atmosphere “turned” when Love chanted “Glasgow Celtic paedophiles” and “Big

Jock Knew” while pointing at Mr Connolly and his companions.

Mr. Connolly warned him to “shut the f*** up,” but Love and Adam called them “beasts, paedos,

and bead rattlers.” An dispute went place between Mr Connolly and Love who first was kept back by Adam.

As the situation progressed, Adam surged forward and swung his arms towards Mr Connolly’s head and body.

According to the fiscal depute, “Love punched Mr Connolly in the head and upper body before other

passengers removed him.”

Mr. Connolly and Miss Seery were separated before leaving the train at Easterhouse station.

The depute added: “Love raced towards the victim and pounded him repeatedly while he was on the

ground.

“As he was on the ground, Adam ran up and assisted Love as he ran and stamped on the head of Mr

Connolly

which caused him to become unconscious and sustained a cut to his forehead.”

Love remained at the site when police and medics came, however Adam fled the scene.

The pair were later visited by police and arrested before being released.

Mr Connolly was taken to hospital meantime and treated for wounds to his head and nose which will

leave a permanent scar. He was given a CT scan which revealed bleeding around the outside of the brain

and  bruising to the brain.

Mr. Connolly received follow-up care from doctor Lucie Hermann,

who noted that the victim suffers from depression and feelings of inadequacy.

According to reports, Mr Connolly also struggles with aggression,

impatience, and problems sustaining focus and concentration.

Mr Connolly has indicated reluctance to visit Celtic pubs and Adam and Love-related locales.

Eddie Kelly, defending, stated the court: “It is conceded that this is a very serious matter,

and the custodial threshold has been met.” Adam’s past convictions were for traffic offenses,

whereas Love has a similar prior conviction at the justice of the peace level.
