Middlesbrough and Aston Villa transfer saga set to end as £15 million agreement reached

Although he hasn’t been playing at his best in the Championship, Rogers’ run of five EFL Cup goals in just six games propelled Middlesbrough to the semi-finals, where they met Chelsea in an exciting two-leg match.

A disappointing 6-1 loss at Stamford Bridge followed a 1-0 victory at home, but Rogers did stand out with a really well-executed goal that gave an honest look at his potential.

There has long been media hype around his potential following a stint at Manchester City, and whilst he’s never had a crack in the Premier League, Rogers could well be set to change that record with the news that Villa have agreed a deal for his services.

Morgan Rogers transfer latest

Villa, who reportedly have had three bids turned down for Rogers already in the window, made their final proposal to land the 21-year-old, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Despite rejecting multiple offers throughout the month, Middlesbrough chiefs have now finally accepted their £15 million offer, according to the Telegraph’s John Percy, with the Birmingham-born attacking midfielder set to move back to his home city before the deadline closes.

Rogers will leave Middlesbrough training to travel down to Bodymoor, before undergoing medical tests over the next day and signing on the dotted line before making his move official.

Morgan Rogers’ career to date

Born in Halesowen, just seven miles from the center of Birmingham, Rogers started his career at Villa’s local rivals West Bromwich Albion at the age of eight. At seventeen, he moved to Manchester City.

Over his four-year tenure, Rogers did not play for the Citizens first team due to the star-studded attack of City, which naturally prevented him from getting a look in at the Etihad Stadium. Instead, he enjoyed loan spells at Lincoln City, Bournemouth, and Blackpool, all of which saw him achieve varying degrees of success.
