Italian report sparks injury concern at Celtic as transfer stalls
Gustaf Lagerbielke’s loan deal to Serie A club Lecce has halted, according to Italian media reports on Tuesday night.
According to Gianluca di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia, Lager bielke was close to completing a transfer before Celtic pulled the plug at the last minute.
Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury is believed to be the cause of this development. It’s unclear whether this is a new concern or related to current issues he’s been dealing with.
The defender made his return to the club in a weekend win against Ross County, but was substituted after 64 minutes.
After the match, Brendan Rodgers stated that it was a precaution. However, the 26-year-old, who recently signed a contract extension with the Bhoys, may have another issue.
Celtic fans await confirmation of Cameron Carter-Vickers issue
Supporters will now be waiting to hear from the club or the manager about the degree of Carter-Vickers’ injury.
If that is enough to prevent Lagerbielke’s departure, the concern will be that there is a significant problem until that confirmation update arrives.
If Carter-Vickers is out for an extended amount of time, the Bhoys would do well to keep the Swede.
Rodgers’ plans currently include only Liam Scales, Maik Nawrocki, and Stephen Welsh as center defenders.
Losing Carter-Vickers would be a significant loss to the team. It’s also a personal blow for the athlete, who has been dealing with troubles all season.
Due to knee surgery last summer, he did not have a proper pre-season to build fitness.
He’s been in and out of action since then due to a series of hamstring injuries, but he’s still made 18 appearances across all competitions.
