International midfielder now in “advanced negotiations” over Rangers transfer

Jose Cifuentes, a midfielder for Rangers, is very close to joining Cruzeiro in Brazil and making a comeback to South America.

The 24-year-old international from Ecuador signed with LAFC in the Major League Soccer four years ago this month, leaving his own nation and club Universidad Católica del Ecuador in Quito.

After joining Rangers from the American team in the summer, Cifuentes seems to be leaving Scotland prematurely, which is yet another devastating indictment of the club’s summer operations, six months and twenty appearances later.

Jose Cifuentes approaches Cruzeiro’s action
That’s according to journalist Nicky Maridueña, who is credited with breaking the story in South America, and Ecuadorean publication Mr Offsider.

According to some, negotiations to sign a contract with Rizespor in Turkey fell down, which allowed Belo Horizonte to move forward with what looks to be a deal.

This follows allegations made by people like Alan Nixon that Cruzeiro was granted authorization by the Rangers to talk with Jose Cifuentes.

Whilst we’ll wait to hear anything official from Rangers or Cruzeiro directly, Mr Offsider came very near to Rangers’ summer move for Jose Cifuentes when his contract ticked down at LAFC.

Following a trying six months in Scotland, where he struggled to settle and experienced a string of injuries and fitness problems that stunted his progress, it looks as though Cifu is returning across the Atlantic.
