Everton eyes on appeal date as sale stance shared on Ben Godfrey and Michael Keane before transfer deadline

Everton have all their focus on their appeal against a 10-point deduction handed out for a breach of Profit and Sustainability rules but Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey can leave before the end of the transfer window, iNews has said.

The Toffees were punished back in November for an alleged breach of the Premier League’s financial regulations but appealed against the decision an independent commission (Sky News). A second charge was forthcoming in January with Everton waiting to hear what punishment may arrive for that, and Mark Douglas wrote for iNews (29 January) the Toffees are focused on appealing the first charge rather than any late moves in the transfer window.

However, he added that fringe defenders Godfrey and Keane will be allowed to leave Goodison Park before the February 1 deadline if an acceptable offer arrives.

No surprise

There has been little secret made of the fact that it would be a quiet month in terms of incomings at Goodison Park and so it has proven the case.It does not appear either that there will be a mad flurry of late activity to bolster Sean Dyche’s options before February 1 even if it would be a boost to the club’s hopes of staving off relegation. Instead, it looks as though the focus is on winning the appeal against the 10-point deduction, a rule that the independent commission appeared to pluck out of thin air and winning that would be a huge boost on their survival hopes.

In terms of outgoings, Godfrey and Keane have both been fringe players at best and neither player would really be missed if they were to depart, other than the fact that they already have a pretty threadbare squad and any injuries would leave them struggling. In other Everton news, the club could look to sign a striker before the end of the window according to a different report.
