Celtic Spring Surprise By Blocking Bhoys Star’s Planned Exit.

Celtic Spring Surprise By Blocking Bhoys Star’s Planned Exit.

A list of nine Celtic and Rangers players that are out of favour and anxious for a move before the January transfer deadline.

Celtic and Rangers have limited time before the January transfer deadline to jettison players on the fringes of their first-team squad.

Both Glasgow giants could want to boost their coffers by agreeing to sell many marginal players who are currently low down the pecking order for a starting spot or have fallen entirely out of favour.

On transfer deadline day, GlasgowWorld examines 12 players who may need to move on to find regular action.

1. Alexandro Bernabei (Celtic)

Argentine left-back was handed a rare start against Ross County due to Greg Taylor’s short-term injury but he failed to impress. Has failed to provide serious competition for Taylor as understudy and has interest from clubs in Italy and back in his homeland. Under contract: 2027

2. Jose Cifuentes (Rangers)

Has only spent six months at Ibrox but looks set to depart, with a move to Brazilian side Cruzeiro expected to be finalised in the next 24 hours. The midfielder rejected the chance to head to Turkey earlier this week. Under contract: 2027

3. Gustaf Lagerbielke (Celtic)

Swedish central defender is nearing a move to Italian club Lecce on a loan deal until the end of the season, which will include an option to buy in the summer. Quickly fell out of favour under Brendan Rodgers. Under contract: 2028

4. Jon McLaughlin (Rangers)

Now third-choice keeper, the Scotland international hasn’t played for Rangers since April last year. Continues to train hard but unlikely to ever feature for the club again. Would be a benefit to him to move on in search of first-team football. Under contract: 2024

5. Yuki Kobayashi (Celtic)

Japanese centre-back is wanted by two MLS clubs on loan after being completely bombed out of the first-team picture. Could also have options back in his homeland. Under contract: 2028

6. Adam Devine (Rangers)

His lack of first-team action will be a concern and only a handful of B-team appearances won’t be helping his development a great deal. Needs regular minutes to continue his progression. Under contract: 2025

7. James McCarthy (Celtic)

33-year-old midfielder has been nowhere to be seen for over a year now. Could leave his boyhood heroes by mutual consent if there’s a shortage of interest from elsewhere. Celtic have already rejected a loan offer from Greek side Volos FC this month. Under contract: 2025

8. Borna Barisic (Rangers)

Croatian left-back is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move away from Ibrox this month. It seems unlikely he’ll sign a new deal now and Rangers risk letting him go for free in the summer if they don’t ask fast. Under contract: 2024

9. Marco Tilio (Celtic)

Australian winger Tilio is currently involved with the Socceroos at the Asian Cup. Has struggled to hit the heights after injury plagued his start to life at Parkhead. Still has a future but might return Down Under to get game time, with former club Melbourne City keen to take him back on loan. Under contract: 2028

10. Robby McCrorie (Rangers)

Warned by Scotland boss Steve Clarke to head out on loan in January or risk missing out on a place in the national team squad for this summer’s European Championships, the Gers back-up stopper needs to play more or let his development stagnate. Under contract: 2025

11. Mikey Johnston (Celtic)

EFL Championship clubs Norwich City and West Brom are competing for the winger’s signature. Both teams hope to sign him on loan for the rest of the season. Under contract: 2026.

12. Benjamin Siegrist (Celtic)

Celtic’s third-choice goalkeeper saw a planned move to Austrian club Sturm Graz fall through earlier this month. Has been a significant disappointment, and it remains to be seen whether there is any further interest in the Swiss goalkeeper. Under contract: 2026.
