5 Premier League strikers Celtic could sign as a favour from Ange to soothe firepower conundrum

5 Premier League strikers Celtic could sign as a favour from Ange to soothe firepower conundrum.

Brendan Rodgers hopes to improve his attacking options this month by providing competition for first-choice striker Kyogo Furuhashi.

Celtic have two days left in the January transfer window and need to complete deals quickly.

After signing winger Nicolas Kuhn for £3 million from Rapid Vienna earlier in the window, manager Brendan Rodgers is now looking to bring in a new center forward to offer cover for talisman Yogo Furuhashi. South Korean star Oh Hyeon-gyu is currently away on international duty at the Asia Cup.

The champions are also looking for a new left back, having missed out on Owen Beck, who has returned to Dundee on loan after being recalled by Liverpool earlier this month.

In an ideal scenario, the Irishman would have like to sign another striker on a permanent basis, but with Thursday’s 11.30pm deadline approaching, he may now have to turn to the loan market to add a body up front. Rangers, an Old Firm opponent, took advantage of the loan market to sign Portuguese youth international Fabio Silva from Wolves, who had previously been linked with Parkhead.

Craig Bellamy and Robbie Keane previously shined in loan spells at Celtic in the second half of the season, while Georgios Samaras’ good loan term earned him a permanent move to the club in 2008.Record Sport analyzes five strikers in the English Premiership who could be available on loan before the window closes.

Julio Encisco

Brighton teenager Julio Enciso might leave the club to play more minutes in the second half of the season. The Paraguay international joined the Seagulls for £9.5 million from Libertad in the summer of 2022, but has only scored four goals in 28 games since then. Despite falling out of favour, the 5’8″ attacker possesses undeniable talent, and his breathtaking long-range strike against Manchester City at the end of last season ensured Brighton’s participation in the UEFA Europa League while also winning Premier League goal of the season.

Rhian Brewster

Things haven’t quite gone to plan for the 23-year-old ever since he swapped Liverpool for a big money move with Sheffield United in 2020. Brewster has netted just five times in his last 63 games in all competitions, and has quickly fell down the pecking order at Bramall Lane. The striker, who won the Golden Boot as England lifted the U17 World Cup in 2017, appears to be desperately low on confidence, but could a link-up with Irishman Rodgers give him a renewed spark in front of goal?

Ex-Hoops manager Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham signed exciting Argentine talent Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central for £13 million last summer, raising hopes. The 20-year-old had previously scored 19 goals in 63 matches for Rosario and represented his country at the U20 World Cup last year.

Veliz has struggled to break up Postecoglou’s front three of Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison, and the addition of Timo Werner has further limited his playing time. Veliz has been out with an injury since the beginning of the month and may need some time to recover if he is loaned out, but Postecoglou might do his former club a favor by sending him the Argentine potential.
