Stephen McGinn is loving what Celtic have done with ‘huge player’ Cameron Carter-Vickers
The January transfer window hasn’t gone like Celtic fans would have liked because it has been beyond flat.
In truth, the transfer window as a whole, both in Scotland and in England, has been low-key than usual. In England, it can be argued that FFP restrictions are playing a part in that, but Celtic can’t have such excuses because there is more than enough in the kitty. But whilst the Parkhead faithful wait patiently to see if any last-minute business is done, one ‘huge bit of business’ Stephen McGinn thinks Celtic have concluded is tying down Cameron Carter-Vickers to a new deal, as he told Go Radio. It has been a frustrating season for the American because he has had to deal with constant visits to the treatment room.
But in between all of that, the 26-year-old has committed his future to the Scottish giants by penning a five-and-a-half-year contract.Stephen McGinn loved that news and even referenced the recent rumours that suggested there was Premier League interest in the player.
Cameron Carter-Vickers signs new Celtic contract
“It’s a huge bit of business,” said McGinn. “Within the last few weeks, there were some rumours about him that teams were interested.“It’s a good thing for Cameron Carter-Vickers. He has had a lot of loan spells. Some successful and some not so successful.“He has finally found a home at Celtic and he is a huge player for Celtic, on and off the park. He has got Champions League football and he has grown every season.“You only see the difference in Celtic’s performances when he isn’t in the team. A huge bit of business that.”
Cameron Carter-Vickers importance
It has been a stop-start for the centre-back, but hopefully, during the final months of the campaign, he will remain injury-free. If that happens, then it increases Celtic’s chances of improving the club’s performances on the pitch because it has been below par.Given that the Bhoys have managed to win home and away against Rangers without Carter-Vickers just proves the quality within the squad. Liam Scales has been the surprise package of the season and he has grown into a leader at the back during that time.
