Saints need to prioritize this position group during offseason

During the offseason, the Saints should give priority to this position group.

Although the NFL offseason hasn’t started yet, the New Orleans Saints offseason has, and this is where the team’s top priority should be focused.

In football, trench warfare determines the outcome of games. It really cannot be emphasized enough, and following their 2023 season, the New Orleans Saints ought to be convinced of this enough. The Saints need to improve up front, particularly on the offensive end of the ball, if they hope to advance in 2024 and beyond.

Although he wasn’t exactly a star quarterback this past season, Derek Carr is still a capable player. The fact that he was injured for the majority of the season after absorbing hit after hit didn’t help either. The Saints’ inability to quite get their rushing offense off the ground was partly caused by the offensive line’s difficulties.

The Saints have talent. There is no denying that. The issue is, that talent can’t be taken advantage of if the boys up front don’t give them time to do their thing. That’s why this offseason the Saints need to address the offensive line, and prioritize that above all else.

Particularly up top, offensive tackles are well represented in this draft class, and it’s not like Mickey Loomis and the Saints front office won’t bend over backwards to acquire their pick in the first round. Since they are unlikely to choose a quarterback, they should select here in the draft, if not in free agency as well.

The New Orleans Saints aren’t getting any better. It’s actually very different. That being said, in order to maintain the line and prevent the sky from collapsing, as the pocket did in 2023, the Saints must strengthen their offensive line.
