Rocco Vata Celtic contract knock back as talks ongoing with Serie A linked starlet

Celtic has made Rocco Vata an offer for a new four-year contract, Football Scotland can confirm.

We are aware that the 18-year-old is in negotiations to sign a new contract with the Hoops, who seek to do so in order to keep potential suitors at bay. Interested parties have put forth plans for Bologna and Como, but the Celts have not accepted any bids until their own efforts have been determined.

Football Scotland is aware that the parties are still at odds in the negotiations and that there is still more to be discussed as no agreement has been reached. The January window ends on Thursday night, therefore the player has one more chance to sign a pre-contract elsewhere this month.

With only six months left on his contract, he might be acquired for a lower price by other teams in Europe or the South. If he departs on a free transfer, the compensation package would be worth about £340,000. Como, who is now playing with wealth, would just need to provide £140,000 because they are a category three club.

Vata made his season debut against Buckie, when he came off the bench to score the team’s first goal.
