Ravens fall to Chiefs 17-10 to end Baltimore’s hope for a Super Bowl appearance

The Baltimore Ravens‘ hopes of winning a Super Bowl were abruptly dashed, making it a difficult Sunday. After defeating Baltimore 17-10 in the AFC Championship game, the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs secured a second trip to the NFL Final Four.

The Ravens trailed from the very first kickoff. Despite having the ball first, Baltimore was forced to kick it to Kansas City after failing to get a first down. With quarterback Patrick Mahomes operating at peak performance, the Chiefs quickly marched the ball 86 yards on 11 plays, taking a 7-0 lead on a 19-yard pass from Mahomes to Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift’s favorite player.

With a swift response, the Ravens tied the game at seven points with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Lamar Jackson to Zay Flowers.

Kansas City grabbed a 14–7 lead and would maintain it for the remainder of the game when Isiah Pacheco ran the ball into the end zone from two yards out.

At half, the Chiefs were ahead 17–7.

Despite moving the ball, the Ravens injured themselves in the second half with two costly turnovers.

The most disappointing one occurred in the third quarter when Flowers went to the one-yard line after receiving a ball from Jackson. But just as he crossed the goal line, he mishandled the ball into the end zone, where the Chiefs retrieved it.

Jackson stated following the game that the Ravens will take this to heart.

“We arrived at this location. The next time, we just need to finish it. Nonetheless, he expressed his pride in the team.

Mahomes, his Chiefs rival, was already planning for the Super Bowl on February 11.

“Our job now is to prepare ourselves to play a good team in the Super Bowl and get that ring,” he stated.

The Chiefs have an opportunity to make history by being the first team to win consecutive Super Bowls since the New England Patriots did so in 2004.

Fans of the Ravens were clearly disappointed.

After the game, Wendy Steele gave her two kids a hug and exclaimed, “We’re speechless. We were the favorites, after all. We were, after all, the favorites.I have no idea how long it will take to move past this. We are inconsolable.”

Prior to the game, the Ravens were a 4.5 point favorite.

The Ravens had more total yards (336 to 319) despite the loss. Turnovers were the largest statistic, though. The Chief had none, but Baltimore had three.
