Rangers transfer update: Ridvan Yilmaz suitors handed more money to spend amid January pursuit

Rangers transfer update: In January’s chase, Ridvan Yilmaz’s suitors received additional funding.

Derek Clark claims that although Galatasaray has “more money to spend” in their search for Rangers player Ridvan Yilmaz, they haven’t yet reached their asking price.

The sale of Sacha Boey to German powerhouse Bayern Munich has improved the Turkish team’s coffers, according to a tweet from a journalist for Rangers Review on January 29.

The 22-year-old Yilmaz has expressed interest in the Istanbul-based club’s manager Okan Buruk, but thus far, bids have fallen short of what the Light Blues are willing to accept to let him go—a sum estimated to be as high as €6 million [£5.1 million]—as reported by Futbol Arena on January 22.

Transfer links to Turkey extend further than just a possible exit for the defender, with midfielder Jose Cifuentes also wanted by Rizespor, who have had a bid accepted, but the 24-year-old doesn’t want to go.

Boey’s exit is set to be worth €30m [£25.6m] with a further €5m [£4.3] in add-ons [Fabrizio Romano, 28 January].

Clark wrote: “Update from Turkey: Rizespor want Cifuentes but he doesn’t fancy it. Galatasaray have more money to spend after sale of Sacha Boey to Bayern. Okan Buruk is a big fan of Ridvan but they’ve yet to meet Rangers’ valuation.”

Pay up

If Galatasaray want Yilmaz then they will have to pay for him, as his current form won’t have done anything to make Philippe Clement or the Ibrox hierarchy interested in a discount.

They are likely to be happy not to part with him at all as he is showing the type of ability, and availability, that everyone has been waiting for over the past 18 months.

However, Rangers spent a lot of money on Mohamed Diomande, and they are close to adding a left-back to their roster.

Given the nature of the player-trading business, the club will need to find a method to recoup its costs, and at this point, Yilmaz seems to offer the most expedient means of doing so.

It will be known that the money is available after selling Boey for enough to purchase the Gers defender around five times, which would undoubtedly only harden the position at Ibrox.

Yilmaz’s departure at this point, just when it appears that he is making progress after a year and a half of false dawns, would be disappointing in many ways, but if enough money is offered and Jeffe can be brought in ahead of the deadline to replace him, it might be a necessary sacrifice—even though it would undoubtedly be a more palatable move to make money on Cifuentes.

Michael Stewart claims that it is “clear” whether the Rangers are attempting to advance another player before the deadline in other Rangers news.
