Derek Clark claims that although Galatasaray has “more money to spend” in their pursuit of Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz, they haven’t yet reached their asking price.
The sale of Sacha Boey to German powerhouse Bayern Munich has improved the Turkish team’s coffers, according to a tweet from a journalist for Rangers Review on January 29.
Yilmaz, 22, has shown interest in becoming the new manager of Okan Buruk, a team headquartered in Istanbul. Bids, however, have not yet surpassed the Light Blues’ asking price, which Futbol Arena reported on January 22 is thought to be as high as €6 million [£5.1 million].
Beyond the defender’s potential departure, there are other transfer rumors involving Turkey. Rizespor has accepted a proposal for midfielder Jose Cifuentes, but the 24-year-old is unwilling to leave.
Boey’s leaving is expected to cost €30 million [£25.6 million], plus an additional €5 million [£4.3] in add-ons [Fabrizio Romano, 28 January].
“Update from Turkey: Rizespor wants Cifuentes, but he doesn’t fancy it,” Clark stated. Following the sale of Sacha Boey to Bayern, Galatasaray now have more cash to spend. Although Okan Buruk adores Ridvan, they haven’t yet reached Rangers’ caliber.
Make a payment
Yilmaz will cost Galatasaray money if they want him, since his current form hasn’t done anything to pique the attention of Philippe Clement or the Ibrox management in a deal.
Given that he is displaying the kind of skill and availability that everyone has been waiting for over the previous 18 months, they probably won’t be sad to part with him at all.
But Rangers have made significant investments in Mohamed Diomande, and additional players, notably a left-back, are on the way.
Given the nature of the player-trading business, the club will need to find a method to recoup its costs, and at this point, Yilmaz seems to offer the most expedient means of doing so.
It will be known that the money is available after selling Boey for enough to purchase the Gers defender around five times, which would undoubtedly only harden the position at Ibrox.
Though making money on Cifuentes would undoubtedly be a more palatable move, it would be disappointing if Yilmaz left at this point, just when it seems like he is turning things around after a year and a half of false dawns. However, if enough money is offered and Jefte can be brought in before the deadline to replace him, it might be a necessary sacrifice.
