The 24-year-old clearly won the ball with his forceful attack on Jair Tavares of Hibernian, but it was evident to Irvine and VAR that his follow-through called for a red card.
Derek McInnes, the manager of Killie, expressed his emotions over the matter after the game, stating that the choice altered the outcome of the match, allowing Hibs to draw 2-2 at Rugby Park.
Additionally, the controversial verdict on BBC Sportscene caused disagreement between the former Rangers and Celtic punditry combo.
