Stephen McGinn is loving what Celtic have done with ‘huge player’ Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The January transfer window has been disappointing for Celtic fans due to its lack of action.
In truth, the transfer window in Scotland and England has been more low-key than normal.
While FFP limitations may be a contributing factor in England, Celtic cannot use this as an excuse due to ample funds.
Stephen McGinn believes Celtic have completed a ‘big bit of business’ by signing Cameron Carter-Vickers to a new contract, while the Parkhead faithful awaits any last-minute deals.
It has been a frustrating season for the American because he has had to deal with constant visits to the treatment room.
But in between all of that, the 26-year-old has committed his future to the Scottish giants by penning a five-and-a-half-year contract.
Stephen McGinn loved that news and even referenced the recent rumours that suggested there was Premier League interest in the player.
Cameron Carter-Vickers signs new Celtic contract
“It’s a huge bit of business,” McGinn remarked. “In the previous two weeks, there have been rumors about him that teams are interested.
“It’s wonderful news for Cameron Carter-Vickers. He has had several loan periods. Some were successful, while others were less successful.
“He has finally found a home at Celtic, and he is an important player for them both on and off the pitch. He has gained Champions League football and he has developed every season.
“You only see a difference in Celtic’s play when he isn’t on the team. That’s a significant amount of business.”
Cameron Carter-Vickers importance
The centre-back’s season has been hit and miss, but he hopes to stay injury-free in the last months.
If this occurs, Celtic’s chances of improving their on-field performance, which has been below standard, increase.
The fact that the Bhoys have won both home and away games against Rangers without Carter-Vickers demonstrates the squad’s quality.
Liam Scales has been the season’s surprise package, developing into a back-up leader throughout that period.
