Celtic transfer latest as Mikey Johnston attracts English interest and Rocco Vata contract move made

Celtic transfer latest as Mikey Johnston attracts English interest and Rocco Vata contract move made.

A few of English teams are keeping a close eye on the Republic of Ireland captain’s position at Parkhead.

Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Mikey Johnston in January.

The English Championship pair is closely monitoring the Republic of Ireland cap’s status at Celtic.

The winger had made his way back into Brendan Rodgers’ plans, but the return from injury of Liel Abada and the arrival of Nicolas Kuhn has pushed him down the pecking order. It remains to be seen whether Celtic will be amenable to a late trade before the window closes.

Meanwhile, the champs are in positive negotiations with Rocco Vata about a new deal.

They made an initial offer but have recently returned with improved terms. Negotiations between Celtic officials and the players’ representatives at CAA Base are still ongoing. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 cap’s contract expires in the summer.

A four-year agreement has been proposed.

It is reported that Vata would want to prolong his Celtic deal if the terms were favorable and a pathway to the first team was available.

The 18-year-old has resumed training with Rodgers’ team and recently scored his first senior goal in a Scottish Cup victory over Buckie Thistle.

If a deal with the Scottish champions cannot be reached, Vata will have further choices.

Como, an Italian club, is also interested in seeing whether a transfer can be completed during this window. The Serie B big spenders, who are controlled by multibillionaire Michael Hartono, may sign Vata for as little as €160,000 this summer.

They are willing to buy Vata right now for a large fee and add-ons. Como has just spent almost £5 million on Nicholas Gioacchini, Alberto Cerri, and

Samuel Ballet this month. Italian opponents Bologna have also approached Celtic, and Serie B rivals Sampdoria are also interested.
