Celtic deserves recognition for their efforts in securing long-term contracts for their top players.
With players on long-term contracts like Cameron Carter-Vickers, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda, and Kyogo Furuhashi, the team has done a great job protecting the first team over the last few months.
However, former Celtic striker Andy Walker feels the Hoops need to make a deal for one player in particular, and he acknowledges that he finds it puzzling that Celtic hasn’t done it yet.
“They will keep players like O’Riley and other important players like Cameron Carter-Vickers who you want to be back fit because he obviously makes the team a lot better,” Walker said [The Go Radio Football Show].
However, there are others like Liam Scales, for whom I believe it would be easy to extend his contract. It has not yet occurred. I’m not sure why.
“I mean, I’m sure he wants to stay. I’m sure he wants to flourish. I’m sure he wants to play in a winning team and the transformation that he has made in the last number of months as a Celtic player.
Not just a man standing in at center back for someone else. This man has shown remarkable consistency. And I reasoned that extending his contract and providing some positive news to the Celtic supporters could have been the simplest course of action.
This season at Celtic, Liam Scales has had an absolutely incredible journey. The Irishman was asked to step in during a defensive injury crisis, even though he was expected to depart the team in the summer. He excelled everywhere.
Scales, who received his first cap for the Republic of Ireland in October of last year, is now a full international after seeming at ease in both the Champions League and the SPFL.
Scales has previously made it known that he would love to remain at Celtic, and in my opinion, he would seize the opportunity to do so.
If Celtic extends a contract to him, he will remain with the team. Given his stellar play and the fact that his contract expires at the conclusion of the following season, it would seem sense for Celtic to take the appropriate action and extend him for an additional few years.
