The latest January transfer news and rumours around the Scottish Premiership
Aberdeen loan EPL midfielder
Aberdeen credit Killian Phillips has joined Premier League midfielder Aberdeen on a loan deal that will run out at the conclusion of the current campaign. The 21-year-old midfielder, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Wycombe in Sky Bet League One, is joining the Dons from Crystal Palace. Phillips started his career at Drogheda United, then transferred to Palace in January 2022. He played in the Carabao Cup as a senior before spending the previous season on loan at Shrewsbury. “I’m pleased to bring Killian to the club as he’s a player we’ve admired for some time,” Aberdeen manager Barry Robson remarked in reference to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international. He is gregarious, diligent, and his technical prowess is equal to his strength of character. Considering the amount of games he has played this season, he has already demonstrated his ability.
Jefte to the newest Rangers
Rangers want to sign Jefte, a left-back from Fluminese football, before the January transfer window closes. The 20-year-old Brazilian is now on loan at APOEL, but because they are one of 11 Cypriot teams covered by a FIFA embargo, they are unable to pursue a permanent deal. In an attempt to intervene, Rangers has initiated negotiations with both teams on the possibility of bringing the player to Glasgow this week. Cyprus-based publications suggest that Jefte’s transfer price might be as low as £400,000. Prodromos Petrides, president of APOEL, stated: “The cost to purchase Jefte is not prohibitive, but the current embargo constraints prevent it from being done at this time. In order to hopefully purchase him in the summer, we want to make sure he remains. The team would adore having him on board long-term.”
Celtic keep an eye on Serie A forward
Sydney van Hooijdonk of Bologna is a striker that Celtic is reportedly interested in signing before the transfer deadline. Because he isn’t getting enough playing time in the first team, the 23-year-old Dutchman is reportedly looking to leave the Serie A outfit this month. Van Hooijdonk was absent from Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to AC Milan, according to TNT Sports, because he was expected to move to Celtic. However, according to Sky Sports, no bid has been made for the son of former Hoops striker Pierre, but the Parkhead team has been “monitoring his situation for some time.” Before the transfer window shuts, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers hopes to bolster his team with a left-back and a striker.
Beale goes after former Celtic player
There are rumors that Sunderland manager Michael Beale is considering a move for Leo Hjelde, the former Celtic young player. After taking over for Tony Mowbray at the Stadium of Light last month, the former Rangers manager is trying to strengthen his team in preparation for the Championship promotion play-offs. Hjelde signed with Leeds United in 2021 after leaving Celtic. Having spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Rotherham, he has made just three appearances for the Elland Road team this season. According to The Sun, Beale is trying to get the center-back, who can also play left-back, a loan move.
Rangers observe Shankland
Rangers scouts witnessed Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland defeat Aberdeen 2-0 on Saturday, scoring his 19th goal of the year. The Scottish Sun claims that Ibrox representatives paid a visit to Tynecastle in order to observe the Scotland international as they consider making a move for the 28-year-old. Steven Naismith, the manager of Hearts, anticipates that the top scorer in the Premiership will stay with the team after the current transfer window closes. “I don’t expect to lose anybody,” he declared. Nobody is fervently want to depart. If people want more football, I can understand that, but we don’t have any plans to be busy.”
Hibs will once more invade Bournemouth
According to reports, Hibs are very close to signing a third player from Bournemouth. The midfielders Emiliano Marcondes and Nathan Moriah-Welsh, the former on loan until the end of the season and the later on a permanent contract, were already raided by the Easter Road team from the Cherries. With the addition of defender Owen Bevan, Hibs might now have three players from the Premier League, whose owner, Bill Foley, is on the verge of becoming a significant stakeholder in the Edinburgh team. Bevan appears to be the solution for Hibs manager Nick Montgomery, who is eager to strengthen his defense before the January transfer deadline. Bevan played the first part of the season at Cheltenham Town in League One of England.
Rangers accepts a midfielder’s proposal.
According to reports, midfielder Jose Cifuentes’ offer from Turkish team Rizespor has been accepted by Rangers. With his summer transfer from Los Angeles FC to the Ibrox team for a reported £1.2 million, the Ecuadorian international has found it difficult to establish himself in Scotland. The 24-year-old is expected to sign a contract with Rizespor on a temporary basis for the remainder of the current campaign. The Turkish team may choose to purchase him in the summer for a reported £2 million.
