Rangers earned a point, according to Stephen Robinson, however Kris Boyd and Sutton don’t agree.
According to Stephen Robinson, St Mirren should have drawn with a Rangers team that they made appear “very average.”
At the SMISA Stadium, the Light Blues narrowly prevailed by one goal, thanks to a well-taken first-half goal from Cyriel Dessers. While James Bolton hit the crossbar late in the game, Saints played solid defense, limited the visitors’ clear-cut opportunities, and had chances to score as well, especially in the first half.
Robinson thought his team played well and felt unlucky not to have gained any points from the match. He said to Sky Sports: “We are frustrated because we believe we should have won a point. We occasionally made a very talented Rangers team appear mediocre under challenging circumstances, most notably on the pitch. We got the ball back, showed bravery by pressing them hard when we had it, and maintained our composure when we did. In the end, though, you receive no credit for the performance.
“We had opportunities. Aside from their goal, which was brilliantly finished, they didn’t break us, which is a compliment to the back five, who were outstanding. To a man, the performances were excellent, but Dessers’ goal and his abilities made the difference between the teams. They provided me with everything.”
He clarified, “We won’t get ahead of ourselves,” when asked if securing European football is the goal for the remainder of the season. Prioritizing our score will allow us to remain in the division and work toward securing a top six position. We’re sure we can accomplish it with the group of players we have and the signings we’ve made.”
St Mirren have so far made three January signings after shipping three out and the manager hopes the rest of the window is quiet.
The Northern Irishman responded, “Hopefully not, it certainly won’t be me any bringing anybody else is,” when asked whether he expected to do more business. Three have to go in order for three to come in. It’s more likely that someone else will depart than that we’ll make any new hires.”
Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton, the pundits back in the studio, didn’t agree with Robinson’s evaluation of the ninety minutes.
