Philippe Clement admits the hope for new Rangers signing Mohamed Diomande is to develop him into a top player and sell him on for a huge profit.
The Belgian and director of football Nils Koppen discussed the player trading model they want to implement at Ibrox. Ivorian midfielder Diomande joined on loan from Nordsjaelland and will make a permanent move to Rangers in the summer for a reported £4.3 million.
Nils Koppen has identified some of the attributes that 22-year-old Diomande will bring to the first squad and is excited to see him join the club.
How long that will last is unknown; it will all depend on Diomande’s success with Gers.Clement believes Diomande is the ideal addition for Rangers.
The club simply cannot afford to spend £10 million or more on individual talents, so they must work carefully to guarantee that the players they buy have the potential to be worth millions more in the future. He believes Diomande may be one of those ‘intelligent’ buys.
What exactly did Philippe Clement say?
According to the Daily Record, Clement stated that the club evaluates Diomande’s current and potential future value.
“So it’s a longer-term investment in that regard. We had several nice conversations, and I believe he is convinced because of the club, the supporters, the project, and the way he works and grows as a player.
“We are in agreement on that, and it is now up to him to demonstrate that in the short term, as well as in the long term. He is still building his strength, and I believe we can make him stronger here. He is extremely fast, nimble, inventive, and can play disciplined.
“Everyone at the club believes he can have a positive impact in the near term and, in the long run, is one of the players who can grow bigger than Rangers and take the next step.
“It is evident that practically every club in the world is focused on bringing in players they believe in, who have the potential to grow and improve with their clubhttps://sportviewers.com/, and then selling them.
More from Philippe Clement
“We don’t have an investor who invests huge sums of money in the club every year. We are not that type of club, so we must devise a strategy to maximize the worth of the players you bring in or develop through your academy. And to make informed moves at the correct time.
“That should be the approach for the next few years, rather than pulling players out of contract, as we have previously discussed. It is critical that the club earns money through transactions and can expand in the future. “Everyone is working toward that.”
