Footage shows fire nearby Goodison Park ahead of Everton v Luton kick-off in FA Cup.

Social media users have shared footage of a fire near Goodison Park ahead of Everton’s FA Cup match against Luton Town. Liverpool Echo reporter

Tony Scott posted a video from inside the ground shortly before the scheduled 3pm kick-off, while Radio City News uploaded a clip from further afield showing a building engulfed in flames.

Worrying

Supporters inside the ground were immediately aware something was not right when smoke started making its way over Goodison Park.

Only through the footage shared from elsewhere in the city can you see exactly where the fire is coming from.

Of course, it goes without saying that hopefully everyone is okay and that the fire is swiftly contained by the fire service.

While this was going on, the match at Goodison Park went off as planned, but many fans inside the stadium might be forgiven for their thoughts drifting elsewhere.

Something similar occurred in 2008 when a fire broke out in a business near Goodison Park, but this appears to be on a far larger scale, albeit a bit further away.

The officials were clearly glad for the Everton game to go ahead on time, so let’s hope for some good news as the story progresses.
