Bruins Earn Overtime Win After Penalties Pile Up In Ottawa

The Boston Bruins faced the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa on Thursday night, and they did not have an easy route to victory.

Despite committing nine penalties, several of which were contested, Boston managed to overcome the Senators and secure their 30th victory of the year. On the “Morning Bru” podcast, NESN commentators Billy Jaffe and Andrew Raycroft discussed the prolonged time spent in the penalty box.

“The march to the penalty box began in the first period,” Jaffe said. “It ended up being the (David) Pastrnak penalty, the (Charlie) Coyle penalty in the first period.”

Amidst a plethora of further penalties, including as a disputed tripping call against Trent Frederic, Boston managed to stay ahead thanks to goals from David Pastrnak and Frederic.

The Bruins capitalized on Ottawa’s opportunity to break the pace in transition, particularly with Brad Marchand’s game-winning goal to seal a 3-2 victory. “There are plenty of excellent teams that fall short in these kinds of contests,” Raycroft continued. “The job was done well.”

On Saturday, the Bruins will play a midday game against the Flyers in Philadelphia. The puck drops at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Following an hour of pregame programming, you may watch the game on NESN.
