Sources: Newcastle set sights on midfield duo after £100m+ Bruno Guimaraes development.
As a successor for Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle United is reportedly considering summer deals for Ederson of Atalanta and Amadou Onana of Everton, sources have told Football Insider.
Transfer reporter Pete O’Rourke disclosed on Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast that the Magpies are readying for Guimaraes’ departure and have found suitable successors.
On January 25, Football Insider was informed by sources that the midfield player’s £100 million release clause could be used by the team during the summer transfer window.
European powerhouses Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are rumored to be keeping an eye on his circumstances at St. James’ Park.
The massive release provision was added to Guimaraes’s new deal, which he signed in October of last year and expires in June of 2028.
The Magpies can’t afford to move for Ederson this month, who would cost between £30 and $40 million, according to well-placed sources who spoke to Football Insider on January 22. However, they might rekindle their interest in the summer.
Onana has shown promise for relegation-threatened Everton this season, and Newcastle is keeping an eye on him. According to Football Insider, which reported on January 21, the Toffees will have to transfer Onana if they are found guilty of their most recent financial transgression.
Newcastle’s four straight losses, the most recent of which came on Saturday, January 13, at the hands of Man City, have left them at tenth in the Premier League standings.
On Saturday evening (January 27), they will play Fulham in the FA Cup’s fourth round.
