Rangers star flips script and insists there’s “more to come” as cult status builds.
Cyriel Dessers, a striker for Rangers, said he thought about his cheeky finish in the victory over Hibs and believed the best was still to come.
The 28-year-old Nigerian striker, who was born in Belgium, hasn’t been without detractors since joining Ibrox in the summer from Serie A team Cremonese.
After stuttering through his transition to Glasgow, the hitman is starting to settle in at Rangers and make some progress toward paying back the rumored £4.5 million he was paid for his services.
The striker scored his seventh Premiership goal of the year against Hibs, and he believes it’s only the beginning. Six of the goals have come since Philippe Clement joined the team.
Cyriel Dessers: “There’s more to come”
The hitman was in a positive frame of mind following the 3-0 triumph over Hibs, where Cyriel Dessers had just coolly rolled the ball past David Marshall with one of his first touches.
The striker’s fan base is becoming more and more cultic, and Dessers has told them that there is only one way to go: up.
The striker made it apparent that he is still developing when questioned if there is “more to come.”
“Definitely,” said Dessers. “I think am growing the last months, especially since the new gaffer came you can see it in my stats, in my performances.
“But I think there is still more to come and I hope I can show it in the next weeks and months.”
Rangers striker ”embraces” Ibrox pressure
Speaking to the media after the win, Cyriel Dessers also discussed the pressure of being a Rangers player.
The former Feyenoord striker’s attitude has been called into question due to the demands of playing for Rangers on a regular basis.
However, as the striker gets used to living in the Glasgow gold fish bowl, he has fully embraced the pressure instead of fighting it.
“At Rangers, there’s always pressure,” Dessers stated. “That was there right from the start.
“I spoke about it with other people as well. At a certain point you have to embrace the pressure otherwise it kills you and I think that’s what has happened for me the last months.
You need to be grateful for it. I used to play at other clubs where winning or losing doesn’t really matter, but you really shouldn’t desire that.
“You want the people who care about the club, who are dedicated to it, and you want the pressure.” In fact, I prefer it, and I believe that we should all accept it.
With 32 games played, Cyriel Dessers has 11 goals and 7 assists for the Rangers thus far.
